Leeds United could be about to smash their club transfer record this summer, on a player who could cost up to ÂŁ40million.
Leeds United signed Georginio Rutter for ÂŁ35.5million in January 2023. He became the clubâs record signing and that record still stands today.
But after Leeds Unitedâs promotion to the Premier League it now looks like Daniel Farke could oversee another record-breaking transfer at Elland Road.
Itâs being reported that Leeds United will spend ÂŁ100million on transfers this summer. And already weâre seeing some expensive potential names being linked with summer moves to West Yorkshire.
Just on Wednesday, Leeds United were linked with Everton striker Beto who cost the Toffees £26million back in 2023, and would likely cost a similar amount this summer.
But itâs on the other side of Liverpool where Leeds could spend big this summer.
Leeds United have asked about signing Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher
Illan Meslier looks set to leave this summer. And in his place Farke will need a no.1. Thereâs been no shortage of potential replacements being linked with Southamptonâs Aaron Ramsdale being one, and Liverpoolâs Caoimhin Kelleher being another.
Leeds United have been linked with Kelleher throughout the year. But all along itâs seemed like an overly-ambitious pursuit for the Whites with the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle United having been heavily linked with the Republic of Ireland international ahead of the summer.
But speaking to Leeds United News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has revealed that Leeds United have in fact enquired about signing Kelleher this summer. He says: âKelleher is moving this summer, he wanted to go last summer but Liverpool decided against letting him go. Giorgi Mamardashvili is coming in now, so Kelleher is on his way and the interest is high.
âNewcastle, Bournemouth, West Ham and Nottingham Forest are just some of the teams who have been linked. Leeds are in this market for a goalkeeper and I am told they have made enquiries about his situation.â
Caoimhin Kelleherâs price tag and current salary at Liverpool
Reports on Kelleherâs price tag have varied. But recent reports mostly suggest that Liverpool want between ÂŁ30-40million for the 26-year-old, which would eat up a large portion of Leeds Unitedâs summer transfer kitty.
And not only that but Kelleher would be a significant addition to the clubâs wage bill, albeit not a huge one. Per Salary Sport, Kelleher currently earns ÂŁ32,000-a-week at Liverpool which is less than the current highest-earner at Elland Road: Patrick Bamford on ÂŁ40,000-a-week.
But the fact that Leeds United have enquired about Kelleher suggests that they believe they can both afford and tempt him into signing this summer, and what a signing it would be.
