‘Just so quick’: Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs agree Everton had a player who was just ‘unplayable’

Everton could really do with some attacking reinforcements in this summer’s transfer window.

David Moyes has already been able to secure his side Premier League safety, but he is setting the bar much higher than that.

However, it has become abundantly clear that additions are going to be needed in the summer to bring Everton up to the desired level.

Everton are prioritising signing a new striker when the transfer window does open.

There are a number of players who have come and gone from Goodison Park over the years that Moyes would certainly love to have in his side right now.

And there is one of those players who Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs have now admitted was completely unplayable when he visited Old Trafford.

Ryan Giggs hails former Everton forward Wayne Rooney

Everton have been told they had players as talented as Wayne Rooney in their academy, but none of them went on to do what he did in their career.

Rooney’s time at Goodison may have been short-lived, but it was clear just how big of an impression he made whilst wearing the blue shirt.

Speaking on Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Giggs has shared just how impressive he found Rooney when he played at Old Trafford for the Toffees.

“I remember him coming on at Old Trafford, he came on at right-wing and I’m left-wing, he just went past me. I went: ‘woah’,” said Giggs.

“He was playing for Everton at Old Trafford, he came on and honestly he just went past me and it was just so quick. Obviously, he then came [to Man United] and he was just unplayable.”

Ferdinand even added that Rooney was already the “finished article” when he landed in Manchester.

Duncan Ferguson admitted he stopped Rooney from joining Newcastle United and that is a decision which Giggs will certainly thank him for.

With Everton’s current crop of forwards struggling to find the back of the net on a consistent basis, they could really do with a player of Rooney’s calibre for Moyes to select.

Everton left with striker headache

For the upcoming game against Chelsea, Everton will be without Armando Broja who is unable to feature against his parent club.

The Albania international has started the last two games for the Toffees as Moyes takes a look at him ahead of the summer.

Truth be told, the Blues have really struggled in attack this season, with Beto’s run of form now being questioned as a mere purple patch.

Moyes wants new forwards signed and has done since he arrived in January.

A new striker has to be one of the big investments made by the Friedkins this summer as it is an area which Everton have lacked quality for a long time.
