Rangers Striker Cyriel Dessers Faces Uncertain Future
Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers was linked with a potential move away during the January transfer window.
However, despite his inconsistent performances, the Nigerian international remained at Ibrox. His future beyond this season remains uncertain, with questions over whether he will still be in Glasgow for the 2025-26 campaign.
Tam McManus Weighs in on Dessers’ Future
Football pundit Tam McManus has voiced his opinion on the 30-year-old striker, admitting he is a fan but acknowledging that Rangers will have a crucial decision to make this summer.
McManus also referenced the interest shown in Dessers during January and believes that the same clubs may return with offers in the coming months.
Speaking to PLZ Soccer on March 31 at 7:41, McManus said:
“I like him. I think he’s a good player, and Rangers will have a decision to make in the summer. There was some interest in January.”
“I think the same teams will be sniffing around in the summer. It all depends on whether Rangers choose to cash in now and secure a good fee for him or if they see him as a long-term goal scorer for the club.”
Rangers Must Outline Clear Transfer Strategy
If Rangers are unable to sign a clear upgrade on Dessers in the summer, they may choose to keep the 30-year-old, given his respectable goal-scoring record despite inconsistent displays.
As McManus highlighted, clubs in Italy have shown interest in Dessers. However, with two years remaining on his contract, Rangers are in a strong negotiating position and may only entertain offers that meet their valuation—reportedly around £4-5 million.

Goals: 45
Assists: 16
Complications Surrounding Squad Decisions
The situation is further complicated by Danilo’s struggles, as the £6 million signing has failed to make an impact due to injuries and poor form under three different managers. If Danilo does not improve, Rangers may need to move on from either him or Dessers to free up wages and squad space for a more reliable attacking option.
Additionally, uncertainty looms over the future of Hamza Igamane, with the 22-year-old attracting interest from Premier League clubs. Should Igamane leave, Rangers may opt to retain Dessers for depth, though a major overhaul in attack seems inevitable to strengthen their squad for the 2025-26 season.
With a potential takeover on the horizon, more clarity is expected regarding the club’s long-term plans and the futures of players linked with exits.
