Liverpool Mayor ‘has serious questions to answer’ amid shocking Everton images

Liverpool City Mayor Steve Rotheram must respond after Everton fans faced issues travelling to and from Bramley Moore Dock.

The Toffees hosted their first test event at the brand-new arena with an under-18s clash against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday night (17 February).

10,000 Evertonians were in attendance to watch the academy side before an additional 42,888 join them to watch David Moyes’ side next season.

There were always likely to be teething issues with transport but after the Mayor’s announcement earlier in the month, he now has serious questions to answer and issues to sort out.

Steve Rotherham fails with Everton changes at Bramley Moore Dock
Earlier in February, Rotherham revealed changes that had been made to Sandhills station to accommodate the number of people coming in and out.

The building of a “new fan zone” was shared by the Liverpool City Mayor but was met with frustration from supporters.

This development proved to be nothing more than metal railings which have been lined up to create a snaking queue up to the platform.

It is safe to say that this hasn’t worked as expected given the lengthy queues and packed platforms that Toffees fans had to deal with after the Bramley Moore fixture on Tuesday (17 February).

With trains running once every 30 minutes, fans were left standing in the cold, waiting for a train that only featured four carriages.

This has brought up serious issues which will only become 10 times worse when another 40,000 people turn up at Bramley Moore.

Liverpool Mayor Steve Rotherham must make Bramley Moore Dock statement

It should have been a historic day in L4 that was remembered by many as their first experience in the state-of-the-art new stadium.

Peter Reid was impressed with what he saw, as were many fans but it was the aftermath that caused issues and left a sour taste in the mouth.

The combination of issues with roads outside the Everton Stadium and a lack of appropriate train services was evidence of an underprepared Toffees who got some things wrong on the day.

Tony Scott shared “Shocking” images of the fans waiting for trains after the event, saying it was “awful.”

With that being said, unfortunately for the supporters who were negatively impacted by this, a test event has been set up to find these snags which should be fixed ahead of the next event.
