🚨EXCLUSIVE: Ex manager Steve Cooper’s number one transfer priority at Leicester City is now outperforming Facundo Buonanotte

Steve Cooper had an ill-fated spell at Leicester City, which was not helped out by the club’s recruitment.

Leicester City completed nine deals during the 2024 summer transfer window but their overall business wasn’t great.

The club’s most expensive signing of the last window, Oliver Skipp, was woeful vs Newcastle United, failing to complete a single tackle before the 60th minute.

Elsewhere, Caleb Okoli has lost his place in the starting lineup following the arrival of Ruud van Nistelrooy and Odsonne Edouard is still yet to score a single league goal since his transfer.

Edouard arrived on deadline day, seemingly in something of a panic move, after Leicester had failed to bring in sufficient attacking reinforcements.

A plethora of attack-minded names were linked with a move to the King Power Stadium, but Steve Cooper had a hard time landing the stars he wanted.

Player Steve Cooper wanted at Leicester City now outperforming Facundo Buonanotte

Facundo Buonanotte arrived on a season-long loan from Brighton and Hove Albion and has proven to be an excellent signing.

Despite being benched in a few games since Cooper left, the Argentine has four goals and two assists in 17 meetings across all competitions this term.

However, one player the club failed to sign in the most recent transfer window is actually outperforming Buonanotte in 2024/25 right now.

We covered reports from Dutch outlet De Telegraaf in early August that claimed Steven Bergwijn was Cooper’s number-one priority at Leicester.

The former Tottenham Hotspur ace was plying his trade with Ajax at the time but instead of signing for Leicester, opted to join Al-Ittihad.

He has now played 17 games this season so far – the same as Buonanotte – scoring four goals and providing an impressive five assists.

Leicester City linked with winger ahead of January transfer window

Had Cooper got his man, Leicester’s season could have gone very differently, especially as the Dutchman would have provided great cover for the now-injured Abdul Fatawu.

But with the January window less than a week away, the Foxes have another chance to strengthen their squad and hopefully sign the right players this time around.

As is to be expected given their horrific defensive record, a number of defenders have been linked, with Harry Maguire tipped to make a Leicester return in 2025.

However, another forward option could still be on the cards as the Foxes want to sign Miguel Almiron on loan from Newcastle.
