West Ham United are poised for a “great season” under new manager Julen Lopetegui, according to former Scotland striker Frank McAvennie. Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, McAvennie expressed his delight at the club’s impressive transfer window, which has seen the likes of Jean-Clair Todibo, Crysencio Summerville, and Niclas Fullkrug join the ranks.

Todibo, a 24-year-old French centre-back, has signed on loan from Nice with an option to buy for £35 million. McAvennie believes the new signings have strengthened the team significantly, saying, “We’ve now signed two centre-backs, Kilman and Todibo, what a player he is, he could be a holding midfield player.”

McAvennie also praised the owners for their investment in the team, stating, “We criticise the owners a lot, the supporters criticise them a lot, and I had a go at them for putting the concessions up. But you’ve got to put your hands up and say they’re bringing some wonderful talent to the London Stadium.”

With no key players leaving, McAvennie is optimistic about the season ahead, saying, “I’ve not heard about anyone leaving, which is brilliant… This could be a great season for West Ham. As a supporter, I’m saying I’ll enjoy watching West Ham this year.”
