July 30, 2024

After a decade-long stint in England, Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho has bid farewell to the Premier League, joining Spanish club Sevilla on a two-year deal. The 27-year-old attacking midfielder, who rose to prominence after winning the Golden Ball award at the 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup, has ended his seven-year association with Leicester City.

Iheanacho’s move to Sevilla marks a new chapter in his career, following a successful spell in England that saw him win several honors, including the League Cup with Manchester City and the Emirates FA Cup and Community Shield with Leicester City. The Nigerian star has been a key player for both clubs, registering 123 goal involvements (82 goals, 41 assists) in 296 matches.

According to Spanish sports daily AS, Iheanacho will arrive in Seville on Tuesday to formalize his transfer and sign a two-year contract with an option for the 2026-2027 season, subject to a medical. He becomes the second Nigerian international to join Sevilla on a free transfer in the ongoing transfer window, following in the footsteps of ex-Antwerp winger Chidera Ejuke.

Iheanacho’s move to Spain is seen as a fresh challenge for the talented midfielder, who will be looking to make an impact in La Liga and help Sevilla achieve success in the upcoming season. With his versatility and attacking prowess, Iheanacho is expected to be a valuable addition to the Andalusian club.

Sevilla, who finished 12th in La Liga last season, will be hoping Iheanacho’s arrival can boost their attacking options and help them push for a European spot. The Nigerian star’s experience in the Premier League and his ability to play across various positions will undoubtedly be an asset for the Spanish club.

Iheanacho’s departure from Leicester City marks the end of an era for the Foxes, who signed him from Manchester City in 2017. During his time at the King Power Stadium, Iheanacho formed a deadly partnership with Jamie Vardy, and his goalscoring exploits earned him a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top strikers.

As Iheanacho embarks on a new chapter in his career, Nigerian football fans will be eagerly watching his progress in Spain. With his talent and experience, there’s no doubt he will make a significant impact in La Liga.
